About Oregon Center for Functional Medicine
Everything we do at Oregon Center for Functional Medicine is centered around you, the patient – because you hold the keys to unlocking the gateway to your health. With your active participation and our expertise, we will create long-term health together.
Our Core Values Of Care
An Integrative Approach
Our mission is to identify your unique health needs and empower you with the knowledge and wisdom to create personal wellness, no matter where you are in your health journey.
Together with our care team, you will review your health concerns, symptoms and health history, so that we may develop a diagnostic and treatment plan tailored to your goals.
Subsequent treatment is based on your individual needs and may include a nutritionist, health coach, biofeedback, or other specialist.
You’ll receive dedicated attention from our care team with the flexibility to have in-person, online, or telephone visits. Initial consultations are in-person. Follow-up visits may be in-person, online, or via telephone – you decide!
When you decide to begin your journey with us, you will schedule your initial 60 minute consultation with our Functional Medicine trained provider. This an an exploratory consultation, where we go in-depth into your health history and begin to chart a course to wellness.
No patient is exactly the same. Guided by our team, we will get to the root cause of your disease – using diagnostic tests grounded in the latest research.
We’ll explore your lifetime health risks; including environmental exposures, prior and current illness, genetics, and your mental state to arrive at a “lifestyle prescription” that puts you back on the road to health.

Did you know that it takes on average 17 years for clinical breakthroughs to make their way into the standard of care? At Oregon Center for Functional Medicine, our entire team is deeply committed to shortening that lag.
All our staff are life-long learners, continuously upgrading their wisdom through sharing best practices and seeking out innovative, out-of-the-box ideas to help our patients achieve their health goals.
Root Cause Resolution
Unlike traditional doctors, our care team always focuses on root cause resolution – isolating the key imbalance that is responsible for virtually all symptoms you’re experiencing right now.
Also known as functional medicine, we seek to give you solutions, not more bandaids to cover up the symptoms (or treating side effects of drugs with even more drugs).
Just like your gut bacteria thrive on symbiotic, mutually beneficial relationships, your desired health outcome is much easier to achieve through the power of community.
We leverage group structures for patient education, peer-to-peer support, and accountability – with both your care team and your fellow patients rooting for your success.
The Philosophy That Drives Us
The philosophy that motivates everyone on our care teams at Oregon Center for Functional Medicine is pretty simple:
“Listen to the patient. Their story, history, and goals are the foundation to understanding the cause of their health challenges and finding their drive for wellness.”
Krista Espenship, FNP, founded Oregon Center for Functional Medicine on the belief of participatory care, where the patient is an instrumental partner in returning their body back to health (or keeping it healthy).
We will integrate findings from the most recent research along with literally decades of knowledge that our team has accumulated. As it is stated in our Core Values of Care, you will always be first in line for innovative, integrative treatment methods that combine the best of medicine.
